the republican party. obama guts welfare reform. not true, actually. what happened is actually the opposite of that. a bunch of governors asked to have flexibility in implementing the existing welfare law. the administration said sure, as long as the changes you want to make don't weaken the rules on welfare and work. it was republican governors asking, republican governors and democratic governors and the obama administration says yes, provided we protect the welfare and work requirements. republicans decided to lie about it and say the president and the administration did exactly the opposite of what they actually did. he took the work requirements out of welfare. he just wants a free ride for everybody. he's buying votes with the free welfare, obama money. it's not true at all. it was the opposite of what the administration had done. the republicans thought they had something. mitt romney made a campaign ad out of it. a few days before the election, romney made another campaign ad out of the same untrue thing. it was a lie. it was debunked. it was one of the brighter, more obvio

. obama stressed the need to build trust between the two parties. the president also still believes there's an opportunity to reach a grand bargain on tax increases and spending cuts. meanwhile, europe is also facing budget friction. this week, members of the european parliament voted against a seven-year budget submitted last month by eu governments. the parliament is asking for more spending on economic growth and more flexibility to move money within the budget. now european government officials and parliament must head back to the drawing board. officials want to finalize the budget by summer. jp morgan chase ceo jamie dimon is not expected to testify on capitol hill this week about the so-called "london whale" trade. instead, the former chief investment officer, ina drew is scheduled to talk, along with other executives. drew was in charge of the uk-based trader known as the london whale for his massive trading positions. the trades caused the bank to lose at least $6 billion last year. a senate subcommittee led by michigan democrat carl levin is investigating the bad trades. t

can't do it with one party alone. obama has his own fair share but we cannot throw too many rocks. it is out of hand we have to see how the movie ends. what does it take to get congress to put on the brakes to look at revenue and entitlement that reasonable people will. if i thought we could do nothing to never make anybody mad, i would choose that passed. i like that path and i don't see how we stop the process until we deal with entitlements or until we deal with revenue. if you don't do anything with entitlements until we deal with rebel behalf some of you will never deal with entitlements no matter what. some will entice you to the table but there is a growing consensus maybe now is what we do something big. with medicare, how much can we afford to subsidize? with 2010 and 2011 it through all wars combined coming is a good program in jeopardy i wish the committee would answer the question doing nothing on social security and medicare come at what point* in time do they fail that you have to intervene to raise taxes or cut benefits? i went to know when that day comes, when it does

of looking to see what their ideas are for the future of the republican party. big names that we're seeing today this hour in fact. senator marco rubio, who as we understand will kind of be following on what he said during his response to president obama's state of the union speech, the theme of his remarks will be why limited government is something that is good for the middle class. and then i think something really to watch will be the remarks of senator rand paul. he comes right after senator rubio. and the -- i will tell you, his camp is setting expectations pretty high here. he sees this kind of following on that filibuster of the president's cia director nomination last week as sort of his chance to cement his role here not just as a big name, but as a name for the republican mainstream. so we'll see if he's able to do that. but he's going to be trying to take i'm told a very serious leadership tone and give what i've been told is a uniting speech. we will see if he is able to deliver on that, suzanne. >> all right. brianna, we'll check back in with you later in that conferen
